
Optimist International’s Oratorical Contest

The Optimist Oratorical Contest gives youngsters a chance to
speak to the world.
More than $159,000 in scholarships are annually.
Optimist International clubs have
been conducting Oratorical Contests
since 1928. Many famous individuals have
participated, including actress Julia
Roberts.
Each Optimist club conducts competitions
for youth under age 19 as of 12/31/11.
Speeches must run for 4-5 minutes in
length. Girls and Boys compete at the club
level. All presentations must speak on
the topic. Winners at the club
level receive medallions. The District
boy and girl winner each receive
a $2500 college scholarship. The
Weddington Optimist’s club contest
will be conducted on March 22, 2012.
